Vol. 142 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Television Station.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if the Government has under consideration the construction of a television station on the Border to serve the Six County area and the Republic; and if a conference has taken place, or is about to take place, between the two Governments to discuss the site, the cost and the financing of such a project; and, if so, if he will indicate the attitude of the Government on the matter.

The answers to the matters raised in the first part of the question are in the negative and the last part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Has the Government given any consideration whatever to the establishment of a television station?

That is a separate question.

In view of the manner in which other important matters have been dealt with between the two Governments, does the Minister consider that it would be very advisable to have a television station financed by the Six County Government and this Government?

That is a separate question.

In reply to the Deputy's question and in order to relieve the minds of other Deputies in the House in regard to the development of what is considered to be the most powerful visual propaganda force in the world, the idea that we should share with any other authority, so far as this part of Ireland is concerned, responsibility for the station is a matter that would require deepest consideration.

You could have said that at first.
