Vol. 142 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of rural areas in County Cavan which have been electrified and the areas which are under consideration for early electrification.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the areas of Gowna, Ballyconnell and Bawnboy, which are completely in County Cavan, have been developed under the rural electrification scheme. The areas of Scotshouse and Maghercloone, parts of which are in County Cavan, have also been developed. The Kilmainham Woodarea, part of which is in County Cavan, has been recently selected for development under the scheme.

The areas of Ballinagh, Dernakesh, Maghera, Mountnugent and Moyer, all of which are in County Cavan, and the area of Lislin, part of which is in County Cavan, have been considered by the board on a number of occasions for development under the scheme but have not so far been selected. These areas will be considered again in due course but I am not in a position to state when their development is likely to take place.
