asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is the intention of the E.S.B. to erect a generating station on and to develop the Gowlan bog in County Sligo; and, if so, if he will request the E.S.B. to expedite this project.

The erection of a turf-fired generating station at Gowlan is included in the present programme of the E.S.B. subject to the outcome of a preliminary survey of the bog which is now being made by Bord na Móna. Until this survey is completed, it will not be possible to state definitely what problems may arise in developing the bog to provide fuel for a generating station. It is expected that the preliminary survey will be completed by the end of this year.
