Vol. 142 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cromane Mussels.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware of the necessity for reorganising the arrangements regarding the purchase and sale of mussels at the Cromane mussel plant and if he will announce his intentions in the matter at an early date.

The system of dealing with mussels at the Cromane purification station is a matter for decision by An Bord Iascaigh Mhara and if the local fishermen are now dissatisfied with the existing arrangements, which were introduced at their request, they should take the matter up with the board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the necessity for the carrying through of transplanting operations in the mussel beds at Cromane, County Kerry; and, if so, if he will allocate a grant for this purpose at an early date.

A proposal for the transplantation of mussels at Cromane is under consideration in my Department and it is expected that a decision as to whether a grant for the purpose can be recommended will be made at an early date.
