Vol. 142 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Áras Mhic Dhiarmada.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state (a) how many officers of the Department of Social Welfare it is proposed to transfer to Áras Mhic Dhiarmada, (b) how many officers have already been transferred, (c) what buildings or offices occupied by officers of hisDepartment will then be available for other use, (d) the location of these buildings or offices and what average number of officers of the Department were accommodated in those buildings or offices at any convenient date in January last.

It is proposed to transfer to Áras Mhic Dhiarmada approximately 850 such officers. In this connection it is desirable to point out that the staffing requirements of my Department are kept constantly under review with the object of achieving economies in administration by decreasing staff numbers, through reorganisation and the introduction of improved methods and procedures. Accordingly, it is not possible to state precisely the number of officers which it will be finally necessary to transfer to Áras Mhic Dhiarmada. The number of officers already transferred is 632. The buildings or offices available for other use as a result of the transfer and the number of officers of my Department who were accommodated therein on 31st January last are as follows:—
