Vol. 142 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Economies in Public Administration.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state, in view of the statement in his Budget speech that the Government had decided that economies amounting to £3,500,000 must be secured in the public administration, (a) what sum in respect of economies has been secured to date, (b) in which Departments economies have been made, and (c) in which Departments it is proposed to make economies.

Efforts have been and are being made in all Departments to secure economies in the cost of public administration. The process is continuous, and until final figures for the expenditure of each Department in the current financial year are available, I feel it would be premature and, perhaps, confusing, to attempt to assess the outcome.
