asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total quantity and value of Irish whiskey exported during the first six months of (i) 1952 and (ii) 1953.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Whiskey Exports.
The domestic exports of home-made whiskey in the first six months of 1952 were 229,733 proof gallons, valued at £292,068. In the corresponding six months of 1953 there were exported 127,242 proof gallons, valued at £167,448.
Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether he considers that a serious problem exists in relation to the value of the export of whiskey?
Surely that is a separate question. It does not arise now. The Deputy asked for data. What arises from that data is not pertinent to the question.
For the purpose of the record, may I ask the ParliamentarySecretary if he is aware that, in the same period, the export of Scotch whiskey increased by nearly £1,500,000?
That question is equally irrelevant.
It is very relevant to the whiskey trade of this country.
