Vol. 143 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Traffic on Naas Road.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether any computations have been made since 1936 of the traffic density on the Naas road between the city boundary and Naas; and, if so, whether he will give the number and results thereof with the dates at which such information was obtained.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question on 31st October, 1951.

Since then, two visual counts of traffic have been taken at Blackchurch, County Kildare. One was for a 12-hour period, from 7.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. on 4th June, 1952, when a total of 3,618 mechanically-propelled vehicles passed the counting point. The other was for a 24-hour period commencing at 7.30 a.m. on 16th June, 1952, when 3,514 were counted.

In addition to the visual counts, the Kildare County Council have had a mechanical recorder in operation at Blackchurch, but the results of these recordings cannot conveniently be summarised.
