Vol. 143 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Anglers' Dispute with E.S.B.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been directed to a document entitled, "The Case for the Limerick Anglers", in which the claims of the Limerick fishermen in their dispute with the E.S.B. are set out; and, if so, whether, in view of thecase set out therein and the large body of public opinion favourable to the fishermen's case, he will introduce proposals for legislation to amend the Shannon Fisheries Acts, 1935 and 1938, so as to give a right to those people to fish as they formerly did, and thus bring their long-standing dispute with the E.S.B. to an end.

As the document referred to in the question relates to matters which are at present the subject of court proceedings, it would not be proper for me to make any comment thereon. Proposals for amending legislation are not under consideration.
