Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Vehicle Accidents.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state the number of accidents in which State vehicles under his control were involved during the year ending 31st March, 1953, and since 1st April last, and in respect of each such accident the date and place on and at which it took place, the cost of repairing the damage to such State vehicles and the damages paid in respect thereof, distinguishing between personal injuries and damage to property.

The following, in summary form, is the information asked for :—

There were 55 such accidents during the year ending March, 1953, and 30 from the 1st April, 1953, up to date. Repairs were done to 67 vehicles at a cost of £1,274. A sum of £40 was paid as compensation for personal injuriesand a sum of £471 as compensation for damage to property.

The information requested by the Deputy regarding the date and place of each accident is not considered to be of sufficient public interest to justify the expenditure of time and labour that the compiling of the information would entail.
