Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Apprentices.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that many boys who have attended the technical schools in Dublin for a period of four years and who have qualified to be apprenticed to the joinery, electrical and other trades, find it impossible to obtain employment at their adopted trades and consequently are forced to emigrate or join the British Army; and, if so, if he has any proposals to make which would help such boys to secure employment at home.

I am aware that the Dublin City Vocational Education Committee are in constant touch with trade unions and employers on the question of employment of pupils of the city technical schools, and if there is anything my Department can do to assist in this matter I shall be glad to have it done.
