Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The National Stud.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate (1) thenumber of employees of the National Stud and their wages, and (2) the number of non-nationals who are members of the board.

Mr. Walsh

(1) I have no function either in regard to the engagement of employees by the Irish National Stud Company or the determination of their wages. These are matters within the domain of the stud company itself.

(2) So far as my information goes, all the members of the board of directors are of Irish nationality.

Would the Minister mind answering the question? I did not ask him if he had responsibility for the workers. I asked what was the number of employees and what was their wages.

Mr. Walsh

That is a matter for the National Stud completely. I have no function in the matter.

This House devoted a very considerable amount of money to that company and surely the Minister, in the case of a semi-State body, would have the information available as to the number of employees and their wages.

Mr. Walsh

The Minister has no function even to inquire what number they have in their employment.
