Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tulyar Nominations.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate how nominations to Tulyar were allotted.

Mr. Walsh

That is a matter for the board of directors of the Irish National Stud Company, Limited.

Surely, having voted £250,000 from this House for the purchase of Tulyar——

Mr. Walsh

You did not.

Mr. Collins

Well, voting it to the National Stud to enable them to purchase Tulyar, among other things—are we not going to be given that information as to how the nominations to Tulyar were allotted and whether any small farmer benefited at all?

Mr. Walsh

I have no function in the matter.

Will the Minister say how he reconciles the fact that he now states he has no function in regard to the National Stud with the directive issued by him to the directors of the National Stud that they were to buy Tulyar and the price at which they were to buy him?

Mr. Walsh

When did the Minister do that?

He gave that direction before the horse was bought. He hid it from the House in the discussion on the Bill, and it is now common property that it did happen.

Mr. Walsh

On whose authority does the Deputy speak?

The Deputy knows what he is talking about.

Mr. Walsh

Tell us who informed you. Give us the information.

I would like to give notice, a Cheann Comhairle, that I propose to raise this matter on the Adjournment.

And the price was £275,000.
