Vol. 143 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Onion Drying Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is prepared to extend the onion drying scheme in West Cork; and, if so, if he will state what grant will be made available.

Mr. Walsh

The growing of onions in Skibbereen has been and will be further extended if sufficient growers offer. There is no drying scheme as such in operation.

Drying of onions is a necessary preliminary to the successful storing and marketing of the crop and is undertaken by the growers.

Grants are available under the farm buildings scheme for structures suitable for the drying of onions.
