Vol. 143 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Generating Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the E.S.B. will consider the possibility of having a turf burning generating station erected at Sharragh and Redwood bogs, Borrisokane, County Tipperary, in view of the vast acreage of turbary contained in these bogs and the great need for the relief of unemployment in this area.

The establishment of aturf-fired generating station in this area is not in the E.S.B.'s programme. I am informed that the quantity of turf surplus to local needs which could be produced in this area would not be sufficient to justify the erection of a generating station there.
