According to returns furnished by the local authorities in 1948, after the setting-up of the Department of Social Welfare, the number of non-industrial employees in respect of whom I am the appropriate Minister, was 724, of whom 118 were whole-time and 606 part-time. The corresponding figures for 1953 are 707, with 134 whole-time and 573 part-time.
