Vol. 143 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Liaison with Press.

asked the Minister for Justice if the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána has considered the desirability of seeking the co-operation of the Press in his efforts to combat the crime wave in Dublin; and, if so, whether the commissioner proposes to appoint a Garda liaison officer to whom the Press might direct inquiries as is done in other countries.

Mr. Boland

The matter is under consideration.

Might I now ask the Minister, arising out of his reply, whether it is a fact that the Commissioner of the Guards has issued instructions to all Garda officers not to give any information to the Press regarding crime? Is that a fact or not?

Mr. Boland

If you want to know that put down a question.

That is not a very civil reply.

Mr. Boland

It is the only one he will get from me, whether it is or not.

That is an even less civil reply.

Mr. Boland

You read out insults to people on our side of the House instead of answering questions when you were Minister.

Take your medicine. You are responsible for all the crime.

Not for yours, though.
