Vol. 143 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Unemployment.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate his proposals for the relief of the unemployment position in West Cork.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of money made available in West Cork for (a) employment and emergency schemes and (b) urban employment schemes, in the present financial year.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 15 and 16 together.

The total amount of the grants made available for employment and emergency schemes in the current financial year in the rural portion of the western division of County Cork is £11,700. The only urban areas in the division are Skibbereen and Clonakilty, and of these the number of unemployment assistance recipients in Clonakilty at the date of the last census did not justify an employment schemes grant. The amount of the grant allocated for Skibbereen urban area is £400.

The position in West Cork and in all other areas throughout the country is now under review but I am not yet in a position to state what supplementary grants will be made for the area.
