Vol. 143 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Bus Service.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he has received representations from the Dublin Corporation or C.I.E. for permission to run the special buses for visitors to St. Mary's Chest Hospital into the Phoenix Park to the shelter at the gate of the hospital; and, if so, if he is prepared to accede to this request; further, if the Office of Public Works is prepared to provide a site immediately to enable a shelter to be erected at the Chapelizod Gate.

Minister for Finance (Mr. Beegan):Representations in this matter were received from the Dublin Corporation and C.I.E. and were considered by the Commissioners of Public Works in consultation with the Garda authorities. It was not, however, found possible to grant the permission sought because of the nature of the roadway and because the parking of buses in the park at the point proposed near the hospital entrance would cause considerable obstruction and be a source of danger to traffic.

No request for a site for a bus shelter at the Chapelizod Gate has been received. The erection of such a shelter would be a matter for C.I.E. and the commissioners would be prepared to give sympathetic consideration to a suitable proposal. It would be desirable that any shelter in this locality should open on to the roadway.
