Vol. 143 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Relief Grants in County Kildare.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state what grants have been made to the Kildare County Council and the Naas and Athy UrbanCouncils for relief grants for this winter.

No grants have yet been made to the authorities referred to as the numbers of unemployment assistance recipients in the areas in question were not sufficient to warrant any allocations in the proportionate distribution of the moneys hitherto provided for employment schemes in the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote.

The position in these and other areas is now being examined in connection with a proposed further allocation of employment schemes grants, but I am not yet in a position to say what grants can be allocated to particular areas.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say when he hopes to be in a position to indicate what grants will be made available?

The matter is under examination at present.

Will a decision be reached before Christmas?

It is hoped so.
