Vol. 143 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Salt.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) the approximate amount paid annually for imports of salt; (2) where such imports come from and (3) whether his Department has any information as to the possibility of salt deposits being present in this country.

Mr. Lynch

The approximate amount paid annually for imports of salt is £200,000. The main country of origin of the imports is Britain, with relatively small quantities from the Six Counties and from the Federal Republic of Germany. I am advised that there is little possibility of salt deposits being found in this country.
