Vol. 143 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Portable Creamery.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that the operation of the portable creamery at Cromane and Caragh Lake, County Kerry, has been an outstanding success and if he will direct the Dairy Disposals Company to arrange for the permanent operation of the portable creamery in these districts and for the erection of a branch creamery at Kilgobinet.

Mr. Walsh

I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a similar question asked by him on the 21st October last. The experiment to which I referred in that reply has not yet been concluded.

Is the Minister aware that, so far as this season is concerned, the reports of the Dairy Disposals Company were to the effect that the experiment was very successful and that the erection of a branch creamery at Kilgobinet depended on that experiment being successful; and, in view of that fact, can the Minister see his way to impress on the Dairy Disposals Company the urgency of preparingplans and arranging in the coming year in regard to (1) the permanent operation of the portable creamery in Caragh Lake District, and (2) the erection of the branch creamery at Kilgobinet?

That is the question on the Order Paper.

Mr. Walsh

I take it that if the Dairy Disposals Company are satisfied that the experiment was successful they will carry out whatever improvements are necessary in the collection of milk in the area.
