Vol. 143 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Permit for Horse Abattoir.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether a permit to erect a model abattoir for horse meat in this country was refused to a British citizen; and, if so, if he will reconsider his decision and have the necessary permit issued.

Mr. Walsh

In two cases since early in 1952, British interests inquired whether they could establish premises here for the slaughter of horses with a view to the preparation of horse meat for export. In each case the inquirer was informed that the export of horse meat from this country is prohibited. I am not prepared to modify this prohibition.
