Vol. 143 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lands for Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) whether the Land Commission have under consideration the acquisition of lands for afforestation purposes, in the districts of Warrenscourt, Clearagh and Teeraveen, Macroom, County Cork; (b) whether the local landowners have been prepared to co-operate, and (c) whether he will state the present position regarding this proposed acquisition.

Negotiations are in progress for the purchase of 226 acres at Warrenscourt demesne. Further areas totalling 141 acres in the townland of Clearagh have been inspected and investigation is proceeding. No offers have been received in the townland of Teeraveen.

The Department is not aware of any lack of co-operation on the part of local landowners.
