Vol. 143 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Transport for Forestry Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that forestry employees at Barnamellia, Aughavannagh, County Wicklow, have to travel daily over 13 miles each way; and, if so, if he will now have arrangements made to provide transport to take them to and from their work daily.

The work at Barnamellia property, a part of Ballinglen State forest, was completed on the 27th November, 1953. The workers have been transferred to work at Ballygobban property, which is one mile nearer the homes of the workers from the Ballinglen/Tinahely area. Ten miles is the longest distance a worker has to travel to reach this property.

The Forestry Division does not provide transport for its workers. I feel, however, that the position in this area is exceptional and I am having the matter examined with a view to devising some suitable concession for the workers.
