Vol. 144 No. 1

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Type for Irish Text Books.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state if he has received representations from the Irish National Teachers' Organisation with regard to the use of roman type in Irish text books; and, if so, whether it is intended to aim at having all such books printed in roman type.

I have not received representations from the Irish National Teachers' Organisation as a body with regard to the use of roman type in Irish text books. I have, however, seen a resolution passed by the Enniscorthy branch of the organisation condemning the efforts being made to have the roman type used in the printing of texts.

It is not the aim of my Department to have all text books in Irish printed in roman type.
