Vol. 144 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - E.S.B. Charges.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the exorbitant prices being charged by the E.S.B. to local authorities for the erection of public lights; and, if so, if he is prepared to have the matter investigated immediately.

I have no function in the matter of the charges made by the E.S.B. to local authorities for the erection of public lights. The Deputy should address to the board any representations he may wish to make.

Is the Minister aware that representations have on many occasions been made by the South Cork Board of Health authority to this all-important board with negative results and is the Minister satisfied that these charges, which are prohibitive, are going to go on the ratepayers of County Cork?

This Dáil, in its wisdom, decided that the Minister should have no function in the matter.

The Minister should be responsible to this House.

I did not make the law.

You can amend the law.
