Vol. 144 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fermoy Industrial Projects.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will indicate what progress has been made in the development of industrial projects in the Fermoy area with a view to finding a permanent solution for unemployment in the district.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will use his good offices to secure the establishment of some heavy industry in Fermoy town with a view to a permanent solution of the unemployment problem in the area.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Question No. 2 and Question No. 3 together. From the information available in my Department, it appears that two industrial projects for the Fermoy area have reached an advanced stage, but the Deputy will appreciate that I am not in a position to answer for the plans of, or the progress made by, private interests engaged in industrial activity.

The formulation of further industrial proposals for the Fermoy area is a matter for private enterprise. I will give every encouragement to the promoters of any sound project.
