Vol. 145 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bovine Tuberculosis Scheme.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether sanction has now been received from the United States authorities for the use of Grant Counterpart Fund moneys on a scheme for the eradication of bovine tuberculosis.

The proposals submitted to the United States Government some time ago for the utilisation of the moneys in the American Grant Counterpart Special Account include a regional scheme for the eradication of bovine tuberculosis in County Clare. As the Deputy is, I am sure, aware, the use of the moneys in the Special Account requires the prior approval of both houses of the United States Congress. The present position is that on the 9th April the Foreign Affairs Committee of the United States House of Representatives expressed approval of the proposals, including the bovine tuberculosis eradication scheme; the proposals are now under consideration by the Foreign Relations Committee of the United States Senate.
