Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total area of land acquired by the forestry division of his Department in Fermoy area.

The total area acquired to date in the Fermoy area is 1,726 acres which form the centre known as Ballyhooley Forest.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the number employed in the Kilworth forestry centre in each year from 1948 to 1954, inclusive.

The numbers employed in Kilworth forestry centre in the end of March in each of the years 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954 were 19, 16, 23, 40, 32, 37 and 59 respectively.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will have the Newcastle area examined with a view to establishing a forestry centre there.

There are no current offers of land in the Newcastle area but I am having the position examined to ascertain whether offers of suitable land can be obtained in the district.
