Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Tomatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will consider imposing the ban on the importation of foreign tomatoes at a much earlier date this year than in former years.

Mr. Walsh

At a meeting last month with representatives of the Agricultural Association of Ireland (Glasshouse Section), I informed them that I would be prepared to impose the ban on the importation of tomatoes at an earlier date provided that reasonable quantities of home grown tomatoes would be available to meet the demand. The association undertook to inform me of the supply position in due course.
