Vol. 146 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork School Accommodation.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the urgent need for increased accommodation in Mayfield national school, Cork; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the delay in dealing with the matter and indicate the steps he proposes to take to provide the necessary additional accommodation.

The problem of the accommodation required in this school has been very much before my Department.

The attendance has been increasing for some years past, and in order to provide increased accommodation two temporary classrooms were added to the building.

I am aware that the accommodation is still inadequate and I have arranged that one of the senior inspectors of my Department will visit Cork next week and confer with the reverend manager in regard to the arrangements to be made to provide suitable and adequate accommodation for the children in attendance at the school. I hope that, following the inspector's visit, it will be found possible to take steps to relieve the congestion.
