The post of chief inspector of factories has been vacant since April, 1948, but the duties of the post in relation to factory inspection have been discharged in the meantime by a senior industrial inspector.
It is proposed to promote new factory and workshops legislation and the question of filling the post of chief inspector will be considered in connection with this legislation.
