Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Motor Vehicles.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that a large number of motor scooters, purchased by the Garda authorities for use in rural stations, have been returned to the agent as unsuitable; and if he will state the number purchased, the price paid and the loss incurred in the transaction.

Two motor scooters were purchased at a cost of £219. They have not been found unsuitable and they have not been returned to the agent from whom they were purchased.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state (1) the number of motor vehicles of all descriptions which have been purchased for use by the Garda Síochána and (2) the cost thereof, during each of the years 1952-53 and 1953-54 and during the period 1st April, 1954, to 31st May, 1954.

The number of motor vehicles purchased during each of the years in question and their cost was as follows: 1952-53—52 vehicles costing £27,893; 1953-54—21 vehicles costing £9,377; 1954 from 1st April to 31st May—8 vehicles costing £3,929.
