Vol. 146 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Bacon.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when he expects the recent fall of approximately 20/- per cwt. in the price of pigs to be reflected in a lower price for bacon for the consumer.

The recent reduction in pig prices should result in a lower price for bacon for the consumer within the next week or so. I am having the question of bacon prices kept under review so as to ensure that the consumer will benefit, at the earliest possible date, from any reduction in the price of pigs. If, however, there should be any undue delay in passing on the reduction in prices to the consumer or if the reductions appear to be inadequate it may be necessary to take other steps in the matter.
