The Council met at the request of the Minister for Health at 11 a.m. on 23rd April and on 25th June. I am also aware that they met of their own volition at 3.30 p.m. on 30th April, on 7th, 10th and 28th of May, and on 11th June, making seven meetings in all since 1st April.
I regret that I cannot give the names of the members present at each meeting, since this information is recorded only in the council's private records.
As he is unable to give details regarding attendance, can the Minister say whether there is any foundation for the statement which appeared in a Dublin paper recently that a leading member of the council, Dr. Noel Browne, did not attend a single meeting since he was appointed?
I am afraid I cannot answer that supplementary, for the reason stated in my reply to the question.
Can the Minister indicate how many members of the Health Council are well-known supporters of the Fianna Fáil Party?
Mr. Lemass:
And how many are well-known opponents?
Could we have the number who are well-known supporters of Fianna Fáil?
Mr. Lemass:
They were elected.
So long as they do their job—that is the main thing.
