Vol. 146 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Expenditure on Tóstal, 1954.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the sum paid during the Tóstal, 1954, for (a) the fireworks display in Dublin, (b) the floral pageant, and (c) the pageant at Tara; and, further, if he will state the sums paid to outside organisation or individual for the organisation of the Tóstal and the object of such payments.

I am informed by An Bord Fáilte that the sum paid by that body towards the cost of organising the fireworks display in Dublin was £1,000, while a payment of £2,175 was made in connection with the floral pageant. The payment made in connection with the "Pageant of St. Patrick" was £5,000 but further liabilities exist to an amount not exceeding £3,500. Payments made to outside organisations amount to £18,700 and further liabilities to an amount not exceeding £7,600 are expected to arise. I am informed that these payments to outside organisations were made to secure the presentation of special events in connection with An Tóstal. No payments were made to outside individuals.
