Vol. 146 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - East Limerick: Erection of Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state whether his Department has any proposals for the erection of new schools in East Limerick; and, if so, if he will state the proposed location of such new schools and when work is expected to commence.

In the area of the East Limerick Dáil constituency work is proceeding at present on the erection of new national schools to replace the existing St. Munchin's Christian Brothers' School, Limerick City, and Monaleen Boys' and Girls' National Schools.

Grants have also been sanctioned towards the cost of erecting new schools to replace Caherelly, Anglesboro' and St. Munchin's (Limerick City) Girls' and Infants' National Schools. Work has not yet commenced in these cases and I cannot yet forecast the probable dates of commencement.

It is the constant endeavour of my Department to have new schools provided as speedily as possible in all cases where they are required. Because, however, of the variety and complexity of the preliminary arrangements which have to be made and with which other parties also are concerned before anything like a decision can be said to be arrived at, there would be serious difficulty in giving, in respect of any county or constituency, a survey of all that might usefully be called proposals.
