Vol. 146 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Rehabilitation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the acreage of Land in each county in the Republic improved under the land rehabilitation scheme up to a current date, (b) the average cost per acre of improvements carried out in each county and (c) the number of applications under the scheme from Counties Leitrim and Sligo at present under consideration in his Department, and when he hopes to have these applications dealt with.

I have arranged that a copy of the statistical return in regard to the operations of the land project furnished for the information of members of Dáil Éireann on the 23rd April, 1954, will be sent to the Deputy. I expect that the next return will be available before the end of this month. As has already been indicated in replies to previous similar questions, the provision of special statistical data of the type asked for in the Deputy's question would entail a volume of work on the part of the land project staff which would not be justified.

Is the Minister aware that work under Section B of the land project department is held up as a result of the maximum grant payable under that heading being too low? I think the figure is £42. Would the Minister consider increasing the maximum grant under Section B of the land project scheme?

That is surely a separate question.

I hope the Deputy remembers his activities on the Mayo County Council.

I remember them well.
