Vol. 146 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Cattle and Sheep.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that a large number of cattle and sheep imported from the Six Counties were on sale at the Dublin cattle market on Wednesday, 7th July, 1954, and resulted in glutting the market and reducing the price paid for cattle fattened by the farmers in the Republic by from 12/- to 15/- per cwt.; if he will state if licences were issued by his Department for the importation of these cattle and sheep; and if he will indicate the number of licences issued and what steps he is taking to prevent such importations in future.

The answer to the first and second parts of the question is in the negative. The third part therefore does not arise.
