Vol. 146 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that, following the recent legislation governing the issue of grants to persons who had built their own homes, regulations covering the change were not issued to departmental officials, that as a result payment of these grants is held up, and if he proposes to remedy this state of affairs in the near future.

I am not quite clear as to what type of operation the Deputy is referring to. No new regulations are necessary in the case of persons building houses for their own occupation. If the Deputy is, however, referring to the reconstruction of houses by persons who are not eligible for reconstruction grants under Section 16 of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1948, I would refer him to the reply given yesterday to a question on this subject.
