Vol. 147 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cocoa Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the reasons why he sanctioned an increased price for cocoa, and whether he proposes to take any action to secure the reduction of the price of cocoa to its previous level.

The increased price of cocoa was sanctioned on the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body following a public inquiry. The increase was necessitated by increased prices of raw materials and increased manufacturing costs.

The price of cocoa continues to be kept under review. If costs return to a more favourable level, the possibility of reducing the price will be investigated.
