Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the total number and the average valuation and acreage of new holdings created by the Land Commission during the period 1931 to 1953.

The figures for the period from 1923 onwards are more readily available.

From that year up to 31st March, 1954, the Land Commission have made 68,533 allotments of untenanted lands comprising 1,057,210 acres—of which 500,957 acres were utilised to enlarge 41,751 uneconomic holdings and 556,253 acres to provide 26,782 new holdings or plots.

Can the Minister give me the answer to the question which I have asked? The period stated is from 1931 to 1953. What is the difficulty in making the figures available for me in respect of that period?

I can, but it will mean a lot of office work.

Is the Minister aware that the figures were made available for the Commission on Emigration?

Then what is the objection to giving the figures in this House?

If the Deputy wants them I will give them. I was going back to the foundation of the Land Commission.

In this case, I am only interested in the period 1931 to 1953.
