Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Purchase.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether any migrants have been allotted holdings of land, purchased under Section 27 of the Land Act, 1950, and, if so, the number of migrants and the acreage of land involved.

Six migrants have been provided with new holdings comprising in all 210 acres on lands purchased under Section 27 of the Land Act, 1950.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) the total number of holdings for which negotiations for purchase have been entered into to date by the Land Commission under Section 27 of the Land Act, 1950, (b) the total number of such holdings purchased to date in each county, and (c) the total acreage purchased and the total price paid.

Since the passing of the Land Act, 1950, the Land Commission have entered into negotiations for the purchase of 39 holdings under Section 27 and in addition their representatives have attended ten public auctions. The number of such holdings purchased is 22, distributed as follows:—

County Mayo

9

County Roscommon

7

County Galway

5

County Kerry

1

These holdings comprise 634 acres and the total purchase price is £18,368.

Can the Minister say whether or not attempts to purchase land under this Act were made in Counties Meath, Westmeath, Kilkenny and Carlow?

That is a separate question.

Mayo, Roscommon, Galway and Kerry.

They are the only counties?

Was anything done in the Midlands?
