Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Síochána Promotion.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he is aware that 50 members of the Garda Síochána, who were recently selected for special promotion, were called to the Garda Depot in Dublin for a course of instruction; and, if so, if he is satisfied that the expense and loss of time involved were justified in view of the fact that most of these men have had 30 years' satisfactory service.

A course attended by 50 Gardaí selected for promotion to the rank of sergeant, was held recently at the Garda Depot. The course was arranged for the purpose of giving the members advice and instruction regarding the duties and responsibilities of a sergeant and also to improve their technical knowledge. I propose to have inquiries made regarding the expense incurred in conducting courses of training for members of the Garda Síochána.
