asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the revenue derived from petrol taxation for each of the financial years from 1944-45 to 1953-54, inclusive.
Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Petrol Taxation.
As the answer to this question includes a tabular statement, I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.
Following is the statement:—
The revenue from petrol is not separately recorded but is included under the heading "Mineral Hydrocarbon Light Oils" (Tariff Reference Nos. 164/2 and 403/2). The net receipts of duty under that head for the financial years 1944-45 to 1953-54 were as follows:—
£ |
|
1944/45 |
782,907 |
1945/46 |
1,143,433 |
1946/47 |

1947/48 |
1,514,925 |
1948/49 |

1952/53 |

More than 99 per cent. of the duty is derived from petrol.
The receipts for the year 1951-52 include a sum of £80 in respect of home-refined mineral hydrocarbon light oil.
