Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Waterford Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether he has yet considered the application for a grant, under the rural improvements scheme, for the repair of the Seemachudda Road, Ballysaggart, in the electoral division of Lismore, County Waterford; and, if so, whether, in view of the inability of the landowners in the area, who are very small holders, to make any contribution to the cost, he will make a grant to cover the full cost of the work.

It is assumed that the question refers to an application from a number of landholders, represented by Michael Landers, for a grant to repair a road in the townlands to Feagarrid, Knockaunarast, Knockadav and Seemochuda, County Waterford. The cost of repairing the whole of the road would be excessive, but a grant of £849 has been offered towards the cost, estimated at £900, of repairing the most important section of the road, the beneficiaries being required to contribute the balance of £51. A full-cost grant would not be justified.
