Vol. 147 No. 5

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Agricultural Holdings.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (a) the total number of agricultural holding in the country with a poor law valuation of (i) under £20, (ii) £20 and under £50, (iii) £50 and under £100, and (iv) £100 and over; (b) the average size and valuation of holdings in each category; (c) the average valuation per acre of holdings in each category, and (d) the total poor law valuation and acreage in each category.

The latest year for which the particulars requested in part (a) of the Deputy's question are available is 1950. While the exact particulars requested in parts (b), (c) and (d) of the question are not available, it has been possible to make estimates for the year 1950. I therefore propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the available information.

Following is the statement:—

Would the Parliamentary Secretary clarify this position? Will the figures he will give me be similar to those given to the Commission on Emigration some time ago?

I cannot answer that offhand but I will communicate with the Deputy. I will look into that and let him know.
