Vol. 147 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Barley Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state (1) the total acreage of feeding barley grown this year, and (2) the total tonnage of such barley delivered to mills and manufacturers of feeding stuffs this year.

It is estimated that the acreage of barley-feeding varieties grown this year was 74,700 acres. It must be pointed out that this estimate relates to the variety of barley grown and not to its subsequent usage.

It is not possible from the available data to give the information asked for in the second part of the Deputy's question, but it is very roughly estimated that of this year's barley crop about 25,000 tons have been sold for feeding purposes. The actual varieties of barley included in this estimate cannot be distinguished.
