Vol. 148 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Afforestation.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will instruct the Forestry Branch of his Department to carry out a survey of the Fanad peninsula, County Donegal, with a view to getting a scheme of reafforestation under way.

The Fanad peninsula area was investigated in the general survey of plantable land carried out by the Department. That survey indicated that there were extensive areas suitable for afforestation in the southern part of the peninsula in the vicinity of Rathmullan and the Department has now brought to a successful conclusion negotiations for the purchase of two areas at Ray and Craigmaddyroe which will form the basis of a new forest centre there. In all, offers totalling some 800 acres have been inspected in this district.
